Le Meridien
What is it like to stand under the sea? In the hotel lobby, a light object inspired by water and mother-of-pearl floats above guests. Just like the sea surrounding Qatar, "Liquify" ripples and shimmers.
The story
Liquify was inspired by the sea water as well as the mother of pearl. Its form and feeling refers to the sea of the Persian Gulf that lays around Qatar. The rainbow color of crystal components is also inspired by pearl diving, which used to be a significant source of income and remained a very important symbol of heritage till today. Chosen colors are signs of happiness and variety, which every visitor can find on the Place Vendome.
The form
The installation is formed of 328 fluid-shaped components made of hand-blown art glass and folded Czech glass. For a more dynamic feel, the glass components themselves are produced in many lengths from 40 to 5600mm. We referred to mother- of-pearl in color, thanks to the combination of light and dark amber together with clear glass. All of the glass components are produced in our glass factory in the Czech Republic by the traditional method of hand blowing and slumping.

The place
Qatar is one of the most progressive and dynamic countries in the world. The installation is located in the Lobby Reception of Le Meridien Hotel, part of the Vendome Place in Doha. Place Vendome is a very popular square in Paris and one of the biggest and most ambitious developments of its kind, a symbol of progress and great achievements. Our project reflects these two highly modern locations while adding a great portion of softness in the place.
